Grace in Sodom

Sodom and Gomorrah (S&G) was a city drenched in injustice back in the days of Abraham (the father of Israel), to the extent that men were raping men. Some might not quite click with the story of S&G, but it’s definitely worth a read in the book of Genesis.

The filthy escapades of S&G was much like the world we live in now. It’s unbelievable and unbearable to see a wife tortured by her in laws, a husband beaten up or murdered by his better half (or really?), a girl molested or abused on the streets, a boy being sexually assaulted within the family and the list continues. However, these are just extreme cases. Let’s talk about a parent hitting a child in anger (even if you call it “one” sound slap), a wife nagging at her husband without taking a minute to hear him out, a husband disrespecting consent, a friend deceiving out of envy, humans disregarding others out of doubt, unbelief, socioeconomic status, education, cast, creed, background – OUT OF CHOICE! Yes these sound small because there is no law against such (yet). This is our world! I am not restricting my blog geographically, but definitely later on my blogs will touch upon more issues faced by India.

So, what’s Grace in Sodom? Grace means aggressive forgiveness! Grace is being forgiven when you least deserve it. Grace is forgiving when they least deserve it. “Mercy” is granted but Grace is gifted! Christ came to give and only give, teaching us to follow him. He taught us to give, not because it will set us on a higher scale but to reduce suffering, to bind the broken. If a boss can forgive his subordinate for not completing a task on time and go an extra mile to help him get the loose ends together that’s grace on the face of hierarchy.  Don’t ask God why there’s suffering in the world. He’s done, and doing his part, now we do ours!
